Sustainability and preservation of ecosystems as pillars of our work

Our multi-impact business model generates benefits in the social, environmental and economic spheres, and addresses some of society's greatest challenges such as food security, environmental care, and climate change.

IMPACT AREA 1

Soil Care as the Basis of Sustainable Agriculture

Our goal is to reduce conventional agriculture's reliance on chemical fertilizers by gradually transitioning to more sustainable agricultural solutions. Our seaweed extracts help crops absorb nutrients from the soil more efficiently, reducing the need for external nutrient input. Simultaneously, seaweed extracts applied to the soil contribute biomolecules (lipids, carbohydrates, proteins, and nucleic acids) and sugars (monosaccharides and polysaccharides), promoting the diversity and activity of beneficial microorganisms in the rhizosphere. This facilitates the preservation and enrichment of soil biodiversity and ecosystem functionality.

IMPACT AREA 2

Stronger Plants Against the Challenges of Climate Change

We develop solutions that enhance plants' resilience and resistance in increasingly adverse and unpredictable climatic conditions. Our seaweed extracts' stress-relieving properties focus on strengthening the plants' antioxidant system, which is key to mitigating cellular damage caused by abiotic stress, such as droughts and high temperatures.

IMPACT AREA 3

Capturing CO₂ While Cultivating Algae

This capture is primarily during their early stage of active growth, making seaweed cultivation an effective CO₂ sink. During this phase, seaweed are particularly efficient at photosynthesis, absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen. By generating biomass in a controlled manner, we not only promote the sustainable production of agricultural inputs but also significantly contribute to mitigating greenhouse gases.

Seaweed provide a comprehensive solution to many of society's greatest challenges. They help keep our oceans clean and counteract climate change by being significant carbon capturers. Scientific studies indicate that brown seaweed have a great capacity to absorb atmospheric carbon dioxide, even surpassing that of terrestrial forests.

IMPACT AREA 4

Sustainable Harvesting and Cultivation Practices of Seaweed

The seaweed we harvest from natural beds are hand-collected by experienced divers trained in proper practices to extract leaves without affecting the resource's rapid renewal. Additionally, complementing these traditional collection methods, we also have controlled seaweed cultivation systems, ensuring a constant supply under a sustainable regenerative model. In both cases, we ensure that the management areas are not contaminated.

IMPACT AREA 5

Income Source for Coastal Communities

We form partnerships with artisanal fishing communities for the extraction of seaweed from natural beds. These alliances provide a livelihood and alternative income source for communities affected by overfishing.

We are a B Corporation

We are convinced that to make our productive and economic system sustainable, we must also commit to our impact on nature and the people we interact with. Therefore, since 2022, we are a certified B Corporation.

B-Lab promotes a balance between profit and purpose, driving economic growth in harmony with environmental and social well-being.
